Winter Vacation-Overestimate Myself

I have not had any winter vacation for 7 seven years. It is a gorgeous feeling because it lets me feel young again. I really cherish this valuable vacation, so I plan dense schedule for it. Unfortunately, it already passed about one third of vacation, and I find out I overestimated myself. The huge problem in my plan is about my reading. At the beginning, the school hopes that we could promote ourselves, so we need to read four English original books. I cheerily went to library to borrow the books. However, I made a huge problem as I rented the book the content of which is too difficult than I estimated. For example, one of the books is written by Stephen King. He is one of my favorite authors, and I am interested in his stories. I try to read the type of original text, but I really could not smoothly realize it. There is too a lot of vocabulary which I could not recognize. I feel so depressed in this event. Finally, I reschedule my plan, and look inside my heart again. Later, I will go to Taipei International Book Exhibition next week to find out the books which I have enough abilities to digest. This experience teaches me that I still have to improve myself. It gives me the warning that there are many space which I could progress. I believe that I will challenge to read these books which I thirst to enjoy one day.

Winter Vacation–Vincent Van Gogh III

Vincent’s earlier works are very simple. However, his works evolved with his life and experience. The paintings became more and more colorful. I think it reflects his subconscious, because Vincent needed a space to release his stress. Painting was his only choice. Vincent painted approximately 40 pieces of self-portraits. The major reason was that he could not afford the fee to hire models. Painting self-portrait could save the money. Oil painting consumes a lot of materials. All of his economic resource came from his brother. His young brother never gave up his brother. Some people even built the sculpture to commemorate their fraternity. He painted a lot of sun flowers. Perhaps it is a kind of self-healing. Nevertheless, close to the end of Vincent’s life, he used the somber and dark blue color instead of blond and shine yellow color. It apparently showed that Vincent’s mind lost the sun. There is still one interesting thing. After Vincent passed away, soon, his young brother, Theo, died because of the syphilis. Maybe he tried to conform his sorrow by sex.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes medream.

In life it is the same as in drawing – one must sometimes act quickly and decisively, attack a thing with energy, trace the outlines as quickly as lightning.

I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.

Painting is a faith, and it imposes the duty to disregard public opinion.

One may have a blazing hearth in one’s soul and yet no one ever come to sit by it.Passersby see only a wisp of smoke from the chimney and continue on the way.

I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.

Winter Vacation–Vincent Van Gogh II

For a man, power, career, and love are the main support. Vincent Van Gogh lost all of them. When he wanted to follow his father’s step to become a priest, he did not have consensus with others at the time, and then he quit. Later, he would like to be a teacher, but he was accused of making a peasant’s girl pregnant. The only thing he could control his painting. That is why his painting were more and more marvelous because he represented his fierce feeling through the painting. Finally, Vincent lost himself. There are two shocking events/something mysterious about his life. First, he cut his left ear for no reason. It is a rumor that he argued with his friend, Gauguin, and then Gauguin hurt him. Then, Vincent announced that he did that by himself in order to protect his best friend from lawsuit. Second, why would Vincent commit suicide? Vince wrote about 600 letters to his friends and his younger brother. However, at the end of his life, he lived with his brother so that we don’t have any letters to explain why Vincent would commit suicide. It will be a secret forever.

Winter Vacation–Vincent Van Gogh I

Last weekend, I went to visit Vincent Van Gogh’s show. From beginning to end, I felt deeply depressed. Vincent had a tragic life. Everything he thirsted to pursue was gone. Even at the last, before his art work became famous, he terminated his life. Vincent had some miserable love. He fell in love with a woman who had already gotten engaged. Later, he confessed his enthusiastic feeling to his cousin; hence, his cousin felt afraid of his expression, and kept far away from him. Finally, he had a stable relationship with a woman. Unfortunately, she was a whore, and owned four children. People do not have right and qualification to comment about whether this relationship is wrong or not. However, people could know that Vincent’s merciful heart must be more mature than others. He was compelled himself to deal with/cope with a lot of pressure from public opinion. He had ever said “Painting is a faith, and it imposes the duty to disregard public opinion. I think it does not only mean the painting but also his life. These experiences offered him a great amount of energy to create these splendid masterpieces.
